The category percentages start from The Knot's published 2026 national averages and are meant to be adjusted. Your venue, your guest count and your city will move every line — treat the defaults as a starting point, not a rule.
The math on this page: category amount = total budget × share ÷ 100. On a $36,000 budget, 30% for venue is 36,000 × 30 ÷ 100 = $10,800. All nine shares always sum to exactly 100% — when you drag one slider, the others are rescaled proportionally so the plan keeps matching your real total.
